Behold the Nigerian Super Heroes!!!

Recently I stumbled upon these pages on Facebook (during my boredom) Comic Republic and Republic Nation, after a lot of clicks and snacks later i found out that they are a comic design company in Nigeria based in Lagos that designs online and .pdf format comics for off line reading. The interesting thing about them is that their comics are African based (i.e Nigeria based since we are the giants abi).

The Characters in the comics speak pidgin and use common Nigerian slangs. Did I also mention they bear Nigerian names. The cast of characters; “Africa’s Avengers” according to some fans – ranges from Guardian Prime, a 25-year old Nigerian fashion designer by day who uses his extraordinary strength to fight for a better Nigeria, to Hilda Avonome Moses, a woman from a remote village in Edo state who can see spirits, and Marcus Chigozie, a privileged but angry teenager who can move at supersonic speeds.

A full break down of the Africa’s Avengers below.

Tunde Jaiye is the fifth element, one of the five essential elements on earth (earth, air, water, fire and man). He is the perfect man created how God intended man to be ( in his image).

He can do everything a normal man can do only magnified to almost God like levels. He is the guardian born to the human race as customary every 2000 years. He is Nigerian. He is Guardian Prime.

Joshua martins had always dug his nose deep in the books, marvelling at the nature of science never did he know that he would one day be part of one of sciences great anomalies, discovering that he was born with the ability of teletechnopathy and magnetism, this would eventually lead to him becoming the super-smart, witty hero and member of the extremes known as Nutech.

Marcus Chigozie, a teenage rich boy with anger management issues, had no idea he had powers until an event that changed his life, now he has the ability to move at supersonic speed, this new discovery has led him into becoming the super-fast hero and member of the extremes known as Max Speed.

Toye oluwadare is the typical school teenager that loves sports, loves social networks and never has the time to worry about his looks and who looks, but his identity becomes a concern to him when one day he discovers he can do things ordinary people can’t, and he must become someone else, he must become Power Boy, teenage hero and member of the extremes.

Many decades ago in the Yoruba kingdom, a desperate king’s deal with a deity results in the birth of a child, Ireti. The child grows into a mighty warrior with powers that surpass normal men greatly; leading armies to battle, conquering kingdoms and protecting her people. Her tale is one not told without the heart to stomach it, her legend is one not carried by cowards and her might is one no evil dares question.

Commander Jade .N. Waziri. The no-nonsense ,strong headed leader of the national advanced security service (N.A.C.S.S) founded by the united nations security council in 1949 . Through a series of experiments at the onset of the Nigerian civil war jade waziri is the first known successful attempt at creating a superhuman soldier. Her natural affinity for warfare, tactical maneuvering and espionage has earned her the position of commander of the African branch of the N.A.C.S.S organization. Waziri prides her self on being the know iall in the room , and will break every wall to find the deepest of secrets.

Avonome is the story of Hilda Avonomemi Moses, born in 1937, in the remote village of Etunor, a settlement in Ighara, Edo state. She disappears without a trace only to reappear in a cemetery in recent times, still unchanged, with no memory of who she was or where she had been all this while, except a knowledge of her name, a mysteious companion and an unbelievable gift – the ability to see spirits…

Eric kukoyi is not a normal man. He doesn’t age or sleep. He lectures at the University of Lagos, also doubling as a par time psychiatrist and parapsychologist. When night dawns, where creatures haunt corners and crime rears its head, he becomes the one thing any of them will ever fear, he becomes fear itself, bound by oath to haunt the night as a force of retribution. The people of this city have called him many names, but one echoes the loudest… ERU fear itself, walks among us.

Aje is a grand journey where a young heroine will hunt for the strength to save the past, present and future

The stories from this company are still developing so do not expect to find a lot of stories all at once [they are not Marvel….yet] but do relish in the ones already available and lets hear your comments.

It is commendable that Nigerians and Africans are actually creating indigenous comics and promoting the spirit of Patriotism amongst Nigerian youths, especially in this era where there is a lot of negativity and pessimism on social media. I encourage everyone to download or read online any of these free comics at Comic Republic and tell us what the experience was like…
